Der Frankfurter Dom

Christina and April arrived in Frankfurt Monday morning (a day later than I thought....) And because we wanted to make sure that they would not suffer from jet lag, we decided to head out to Frankfurt for a little while and check out the Frankfurter Dom. This cathedral is just off of the Roemer Platz and is one of the most recognizable features of this city.

My friends: Christina, Barbel, and Christina ~

The cathedral in Frankfurt is bright, with glorious arches ~

April was thrilled to find a door, just her size!

In one of the chapels, was this lovely stained glass that depicted the life of Mary ~

Next stop? The Roemer Platz, of course! It was in this square where we attended the Weinachts Markt when we lived in Germany. But even without the vendors and gluewein, the Roemer Platz was gorgeous ~

I can't get enough of the old German architecture ~

The Haus Wertheim: Were a fire to break out in this part of town, the fire fighters would spend all of their efforts to save this one building.... Any guesses why?

Because the streets of old Frankfurt were so terribly narrow, each home was equipped with a basement. These basements were all connected to.... you guessed it! So, in the event of a fire, all inhabitants would flee through their basements and these underground tunnels to the Haus Wertheim, where they were assured of an escape due to the efforts of the fire fighters.

Our first day of tours over, we all sat outside of a little gaststaette for some wurst and apple wein ~

I think we are all going to have a GREAT time here!
