Taiwan ~ Take Two

I lived in Taiwan for two years when I was in the 5th and 6th grades - way back in the 1970s! I have wonderful memories of our time there. It was the most exotic place we had ever lived, and I think part of my love of travel comes from that experience.

Well, my dear friend, Diana, lives in Taiwan now and she invited Kelly and me to come for a visit! Yes, please!!

Now, she lives down south, in Kaohsiung - quite a ways from Taipei, where I used to live.

Fo Guang Shan Monestary

It was a cool window ~ I HAD to hang out!

Words to live by ~

Luckily, she lived near the beach, so we could cool off...

...for all the trekking we would do!!!!

Not sure why I'm surprised by the monkeys. I always seem to attract monkeys!!

                                   A heart ~

Dinner in...

 Arkansas???

Off to some cool sites in Kaohsiung ~

We not only found Mongolian barbecue...

We found the yummy rice(?) wrappers I remember from my childhood, which I hadn't had since!!!!!!  YUM!!!

Next, Diana and Kelly were troopers and took me up to Taipei so I could find my old house up in Wellington Heights.  Except that the first stop to get there was through Beitou - and this was NOT Beitou!!!

Beitou back when I lived here was seriously a little village surrounded by rice paddies!  Well, I've grown up and bit, and so has this little hamlet. Apparently now, Beitou is THE place to go for spas and such.... Who knew!

We did finally make it up the hill to my old homestead, though ~

But as I walked up the hill, all the streets sort of looked the same. I was looking for our home, which was at the end of a street/bridge, that dead-ended into the mountain.

But then, thanks to the help of a neighbor walking past us, there it was!!  The fence is new, but that's my bridge, and beyond is where my sister and I spent HOURS playing!!

And apparently the new owners of the lot tore down our old house and rebuilt, but that's our lot!

But most recognizably: that is Dog's Head Mountain -
We used to climb up to it regularly! And I was going to tackle it myself today :)

I felt quite accomplished. And I really enjoyed this step back in time                  - good memories!

Next: spa time!  Couldn't take pictures inside, but see how prune-y we got!!!???

One more dinner!  What are we waiting for, you ask?

Noodles!

And yummy dessert ~ Thank you, Diana, for a wonderful vacation!
